Wetlands, sloughs and pastures along SR 9 in the South Fork Nooksack valley between Acme and Saxon Road. Trumpeter swans and a wide mix of waterfowl use the wet fields in winter, with eagles, herons and kingfishers along the river.
Fog often hangs in the valley on winter mornings; swans in mist against dark, forested hillsides make moody frames.
