Whatcom County
A small cattail and lily-pad pond at the northeast end of Whatcom Falls Park, beside the Lake Whatcom outlet. Long protected by North Cascades Audubon and now a City of Bellingham preserve, it draws wood ducks, herons and wintering diving ducks, with beaver and muskrat in the reeds.
The trail runs right along the pond, so birds are close; stand still and let wood ducks drift out of the cattails rather than walking the edge.
Access details are drafts and haven't been verified on site.
